2024 Rouge Brute — Sparkling Red

The next evolution of a new concept around sparkling red wine. In the US, sparkling red is a non-category. This vintage adds old-vine Carignan and Primitivo to the Merlot–Albariño base — reds deliver sweet underlying fruit while Albariño keeps things energetic and light. Fresh fruit and herbs fill the glass.

Winemaking: Each variety fermented separately and blended before bottling. Albariño direct-pressed and fermented in stainless steel. Reds fermented whole-cluster for 10 days via submerged-cap carbonic maceration (limits harsh tannin), then aged in neutral barrel through malolactic. Bottled with fresh yeast and a small amount of sugar, yielding lower pressure — which complements the red-wine tannins.

This Rouge Brute has become my go-to bottle to share with friends and it never fails to spark a "what is this?" followed quickly by an empty glass. The Merlot-Albariño blend is rich up front with a bright lift on the back end. Great balance of flavor and soft bubbles make it perfect for any meal without ever feeling heavy. Chill it down and it works for a backyard hang, the dinner table, or in a rocks glass while working in the garden. This bottle is unpretentious, easy to enjoy, and unique enough to make you look like you know something.
